How to wind the watch with watch winder
Winding an automatic watch using a watch winder is a straightforward process designed to keep your timepiece accurately wound when it’s not being worn. Here’s a step-by-step guide to ensure your watch stays in optimal condition:
1. Prepare Your Watch Winder
Check Compatibility: Ensure the watch winder you’ve chosen is suitable for your watch’s size and winding requirements. Different watches have varying winding specifications, so it’s crucial to adjust the winder accordingly.
Set the TPD (Turns Per Day): Determine the recommended TPD for your specific watch model. This information can typically be found in the watch manual or obtained from the watch brand list below. Use the winder’s control panel or dials to set the TPD.
Choose Rotation Direction: Some watches require a specific winding direction, while others may benefit from a mixed setting that alternates between clockwise and counterclockwise. Consult your watch’s manual for the correct setting.
Check the Watch Power: Please make sure that your watch still has at least 20%-30% kinetic energy before putting it into the automatic watch winder. A watch that has stopped moving will not gain kinetic energy when placed in the watch winder box. This is because the automatic watch winders are designed to keep the autowinder watch running, not to provide power to start a stopped watch.
Install the Watch: Secure your watch onto the winder’s cushion or pillow, making sure the watch fits snugly and the watch’s crown is not pressed against anything. The watch should rest naturally, as if it were on your wrist.
2. Program the Watch Winder
Direction Setting: If your winder allows, set the winding direction(s) as per your watch’s requirement.
Rest Periods: Many quality winders offer programmable rest cycles. These simulate the natural pauses in wrist movement.Set these according to your watch’s needs or default to a common cycle such as 10 minutes of winding followed by 10 minutes of rest.
Start the Winder: Once all settings are configured, plug in the winder and turn it on. Some winders have an LED indicator to show the operating status.
3. Monitor and Adjust
Initial Observation: Observe the watch over the first few days to ensure it winds correctly and doesn’t become over-wound. Modern watches usually have a slip clutch mechanism to prevent this, but it’s good practice to check.
Adjust as Needed: If you notice the watch isn’t winding effectively or the watch winder seems too active, refer back to the settings and make adjustments accordingly.
4. Maintenance and Care
Regular Cleaning: Keep your watch winder case clean and dust-free to ensure smooth operation.
Battery or Power Check: If your winder has a battery option, remember to replace batteries regularly or ensure it’s plugged in if using AC power.
